1st GCC conference Evidence Based Healthcare Professional Development

Conference Highlights

The Conference’s scientific committee (SC) highlights key issues of the conference, building on:

 

·     This conference is the first of its kind to address matters concerning the performance of healthcare professionals as one unified and homogenous team, emphasizing the importance of the teamwork and the importance of working in synergy.

·     The first event to explore practical and effective strategies to implement continuous professional development (CPD) based on evidence and clinical practices.

·     The event will also address major issues of miscommunication and intercommunication between the different healthcare professionals.

·     One main goal, over the long term, is to create a 'Central Committee' across all GCC to monitor and improve the quality of the CPD programs, policies and practices. This will also be a real tool or catalyst for change.

Conference General Theme:

 

Towards evidence-based and best practices in professional development and educational environment across healthcare.

 

Conference Goal:

 

The conference targets the following themes :

 

1.     Explore different strategies for implementing continuous professional development in order to build the capacity of all healthcare professionals

2.      Upgrade and improve the performance of healthcare workers to work as an effective team and enhance team culture.

3.      Illustrate different issues, including curricula, teaching methods, assessment and barriers to implementation, for interprofessional education among all healthcare workers.

4.      Create the potentials to manage professionally different work conflicts and stress of work environment.

5.      Bear in mind the quality control indicators for the development of education programs in health sectors.

6.      Address issues of inter-professional development and multi-disciplinary orientation among all healthcare professionals.

7.      Empower the health professionals capacities to improve their performance in administrative, financial, health-economics, and leadership matters

Conference Activities:

1.      Debate sections; to generate creative ideas and deep discussions

2.      Plenary sessions

3.      Keynote speakers and rich panel discussions

4.      Workshops; most important component of the conference. Proposed to conduct 4-5 workshops in key areas cascaded from the conference goals. A voting method for participants to share their ideas/feedback promptly will be contemplated.

(Workshops topics will be decided through the papers that will be submitted and the final goals of the conference). 

5.      Exhibition; mainly to invite medical educational affiliations, academics institutions, etc.

Workshops Scope:

1.      Evidence based clinical practice

2.      Physicians as Managers/Leaders of healthcare institutions

3.      Team Coaching, Team Leadership, and Conflict Management  

4.      Communication Skills, Developing others, Emotional Intelligence

5.      Developing inter-professional education program (from rationale to evaluation)

6.      Assessing healthcare professionals competencies and performance

 

Extension Activities:


Kuwait Declaration:

Led by the Executive Board of The Health Ministers' Council for GCC States,  it was suggested that ultimately the conference will propose the so-called Kuwait Declaration for Evidence-Based Healthcare professional Development (EPD), which should upgrade the current practices or  renovate malpractice in the GCC region with a context to international standards, bylaws, best practices etc. Creating the necessary political, official and professional environment to accelerate adopting new strategic directions, recommendations and better practices
